Cottage Style Furniture

When We Think of Cottage Style Furniture & Decor, These Four “Rules” Come to Mind:

1. Banish the bland interior.  Cottage furniture uses color and pattern to help define space.

2. Add texture to your space.  Mix and match using casual bright fabrics on your slipcovered sofa.  Use florals and stripes, checks and plaids, solids and patterns in a coordinated casual cottage furniture theme.

3. Create an authentic interior.  Emphasize the old and mix with the new.  In a typical American-style cottage you are likely to find painted cottage furniture, reclaimed farmhouse tables, and cottage wicker, with and without distressed surfaces.

4. Set the stage with wood flooring and cottage style area rugs.  A cottage floor is meant to be walked on and easy to care for!

Above all else, cottage furniture is meant to be used and enjoyed.  Just as in fashion, the right cottage style accessories help make the ‘look’.  Let your personality shine through.  There are many different ways our cottage furniture and décor can help to create your perfect cottage home – here are three of our favorites:

Classic Cottage

Classic cottage furniture and decor emphasizes clean lines and classic shapes that stand the test of time. While a slightly more tailored approach is used in classic cottage decorating, there is still a welcoming, comfortable feeling to the furniture style, color, and fabric choices. The centerpiece to a classic cottage living room may be a rolled arm, upholstered sofa with exposed turned legs, while in the classic cottage bedroom, a painted four post bed might take center stage.

Dark finished wood stands out against classic black and white painted finishes in traditional decorating – classic cottage takes this idea one step further by incorporating unexpected touches of color! Whether it is a signature painted piece or a hidden detail, a fun fabric print or bold artwork, these individual elements help make a classic cottage a home.

Casual Cottage

Another way to customize the look of your handmade dining table is the shape of the table top.  In addition to traditional rectangular and round table tops, we also offer oval and racetrack tops.  What’s that?  A racetrack table top has curved ends and straight sides whereas an oval top is curved on all sides. We can also design custom dining table with special top shapes to fit any banquette requirement.

In addition to shape and size, all of our made to order dining table tops come in standard (about 1″), thick (about 1.5- 1.75″) and extra thick (+2″) thicknesses.  Do you need an extra large dining table, a very narrow dining table or an odd shape?  All of our handmade dining table lengths, widths and shapes are customizable.  Just ask us if you don’t see the exact size you are looking for!

Romantic Cottage

All of our custom dining tables are available in the color and finish of your choice.  Our existing color pallet includes 90 paint colors,  multiple stain color options specific to each workshop collection and several wax color options for our reclaimed woods.  Please feel free to explore all of our paint and stain options to help guide your design plans.  All of paint and stain finishes include a durable water based clear top coat.  This makes it easier to keep the dining table top clean with a damp sponge (no chemicals!) and provides protection from water rings.

In addition to color choice there are also many finish options.  Painted finishes can be solid, rubbed (worn) or rubbed & glazed.  For a very unique look consider a two and three color rub. Finally for any of our finishes you can choose your level of wood distressing.  To paint or to stain your table?  Perhaps wax?  Choose your level of distressing?  The choice is truly yours.  Free color samples to view in your home can be requested online from each of our product pages.  Color samples are sent out the following day. Need a custom color?  We can do that too!
